Exterior painting projects on older homes is often times more of a home renovation. The foundation for a well engineered exterior paint job lies in a properly prepared substrate. Cedar siding and trim found on historical homes in this area are amazingly restorable but often require more than a steel scraper and a can of paint to keep a them isolated from the elements. Unfortunately many painting companies simply scrape off what is visibly loose. Every couple of years the cycle starts again. The problem often lies in the initial bond of the coating to the wood. If the initial prime coat its 80-100 years old with many layers of hardened paint on top of it, these original and subsequent coatings will continue to pop off the substrate. It is often necessary to remove all layers of coatings down to the wood in these problematic areas of the house. If the cedar siding has begun to fissure or rot, those areas are replaced with new siding. When rot is discovered on the trim we can often extract the damaged fibers , dry the area out and then solidify and pack in the voids with a lifetime epoxy. We then re-apply product to dry, properly abraded and sound surface. We use a penetrating breathable primer and then top coat with a premium 100% acrylic. The end result is a finished appearance which is smooth, free of paint voids and is equal to or surpassing the original.  Here is more information if you are looking for quality Seattle Painting Contractor.
